How we ranked these firms
This is a general list across both futures and forex, so we weigh payout reliability and reputation first, then pricing and value, profit split, rules and drawdown and platform choice. Because a prop firm is only as good as its payouts, a documented track record and a strong, high-volume review base count heavily.
Topstep and Apex Trader Funding lead on the futures side for their long track records and consistent payouts, FTMO is the benchmark on the forex/CFD side for the longest documented payout history, My Funded Futures earns its place for flexible one-step evaluations, FundingPips for cheap entry and ~24-hour forex payouts, Lucid Trading as a fast-rising futures value pick, and Take Profit Trader for its live-funded payout model.
Futures vs forex prop firms — and why US traders must choose futures
The single most important split is product type. Futures prop firms (Topstep, Apex, My Funded Futures, Lucid Trading, Take Profit Trader) trade CME products — the E-mini S&P 500 (ES), Nasdaq (NQ), gold (GC) and crude oil (CL) — and are open to US retail traders. Forex/CFD prop firms (FTMO, FundingPips) trade currencies and CFDs and do not offer their products to US retail clients.
So if you are based in the US, a forex/CFD firm is generally not an option — you must use a futures firm. If you are outside the US, both routes are open, and the choice comes down to which markets you want to trade, though eligibility still varies by country.
Lucid Trading — the value pick to watch
Lucid Trading is a newer CME futures firm (launched early 2025) that has climbed our list fast. It offers both LucidTest (a standard evaluation) and LucidDirect (instant funding, no evaluation), uses an end-of-day drawdown that is more forgiving than intraday trailing, and lets traders keep 100% of the first $10,000 in profit before moving to a 90/10 split.
It supports the platforms serious futures traders use — Rithmic, Tradovate, NinjaTrader and Quantower — and has built a reputation for fast payouts. We rank it as a strong up-and-comer rather than above Topstep or Apex on pure track record, but on value it is one of the most compelling options in the futures space right now.
What to check before you buy
Confirm the drawdown structure (daily and max loss, trailing vs static vs end-of-day), the profit split and any scaling plan, the payout threshold, frequency and speed, and any consistency or minimum-day rules that gate your first withdrawal. Check the platform supports how you trade — Rithmic/Tradovate/NinjaTrader for futures, MT4/MT5/cTrader for forex.
Never pay sticker price — these firms discount constantly — and weigh reputation above a marginally lower fee. A cheap challenge at a firm that delays payouts is poor value next to a proven firm that pays cleanly. Match the firm to your market: pick a futures firm for ES/NQ/GC/CL, a forex firm for currencies and CFDs.
Honest caveats and risk
Several firms on this list are relatively young, so the longest track records (Topstep, Apex, FTMO) are a genuine advantage over newer entrants like Lucid Trading. We have not tested every firm’s payouts ourselves and report reputation as the public record, not as proof.
Risk note: evaluation and funded prop-firm accounts are simulated until you are funded and paid, trading futures and forex carries a high risk of loss, and rules and pricing change often. This is educational content, not financial advice. Start small, confirm a payout works before scaling, and never treat fees as guaranteed income.
